Welcome to The Gap Presbyterian Church

Fish
Church Community
We are a Church Community made up of a collection of families; dads, mums, youth and kids with a sprinkle of granddads and grandmas. Young and old are all important so we for cater for those who like hymns and those who like more modern songs. We are neither happy clappers nor the frozen chosen. Most of all we are very genuine in our love for Jesus Christ, for each other and for the wider community. So we are always happy to welcome new people into our Church family.

2 Peter 3

A nasty brew

Once I made a pasta dish, it looked great but I had put too much oregano which made it really nasty (bitter). This sermon has more than one nasty ingredient. Don't grumble and be patient. Let me tell you that all this week God hammered me, frustrating me, making me have plenty of opportunities to learn to be patient. I'm exhausted. I find that God does make me live what I preach, either before the sermon or after and sometimes both. It's an aspect of ministry which can make it really hard. A lot of things went wrong, I had writers block (which is increasingly frustrating as the deadline approaches). I had interruptions (including the police, no I wasn't in trouble) and then my computer has progressively died and last night I didn't get a wink of sleep. To be honest, I did a lot of grumbling and impatience this week, but hey, at least I'm aware of it and I'm trying to work on it too with God's help. the Rev

Luke 22:39-46

The Drink, The Ring and The cup

Pain, suffering, rejection, loneliness are normal experiences that we would rather avoid. They taste bitter when we drink them. Each drink reminds us of the final drink that we must take when we die. Bilbo planned to leave Frodo the ring of power so he gave away lots of presents to help him let go of the ring. When the time came he couldn’t leave the ring without Gandalf’s help. Jesus drank many bitter experiences in his life (a man of sorrow) but nothing could prepare him for the final cup. It was not the physical suffering that Christ wanted to avoid but the drinking of our final cup. If you would like to be encouraged to fear no more then you need to hear what was in the cup that Christ drank from. the Rev

Revelation 7:9-17

Jesus drank your future

In the Garden Jesus agonised over the cup God wanted him to drink from. The cup was every believer’s future judgement; the punishment of every wrong was poured into the cup which Jesus drank. When you die and are brought to God for judgment you will be given a cup of wrath and punishment to drink. When you take the cup it will be empty, for Christ has drunk it for you. No longer do you need to fear death and punishment, eternal rejection from God and eternal loneliness. If you would like to glimpse your life in the future then listen to this message.  the Rev
