John 6:22-71

Lasting Satisfaction

There is nothing like a deliciously hot dinner on a cold night. Full, warm and satisfied is the result. But in a few hours tummy starts thinking about supper or a snack.

goose that lays the golden egg
Is Jesus the goose that lays the golden egg?

Life can be just like hunger. Satisfaction is never lasting so we need to keep eating. One holiday is not going to last you the rest of your life. One romantic night leads to a desire to another. Your dream car, job, hobby needs constant upgrading.

Isn’t God there to give us what we find satisfying, to make our marriage happy, kids obedient, job fulfilling, food tasty? I haven’t found that to be the case. God has rarely given me what my heart desires.

God has a different agenda. Rather than filling our lives full of what we want he encourages us to be satisfied with Him. Christ came to give you himself not fill up your life’s shopping trolly full of things and experiences. This isn’t as disappointing as it sounds.

Jesus said he is the bread of life and that his bread would endure to everlasting life. We make the mistake of wanting stuff from Jesus instead of wanting Jesus himself. Our purpose in Christ is to love God and love people. When we take pleasure in serving Christ we will find a different kind of satisfaction, we will find that our hearts will grow more satisfied with serving rather than being served, giving rather than receiving.

Christ is the source of all life and to have him means we will have lasting satisfaction. the Rev

Prayer: Dear God, forgive me for my selfish love of you, that I’ve tried to use you to get what I thought would make me happy. Forgive me for loving the things you give me more than I love you. Enable me to want Christ, to eat Christ and to share Christ so that I can love and live my life to the full. Use me Lord to bless you and bless people, that they may see the love and life of Christ in me.  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
