Romans 6:15-23 Doing the dishes and the gospel
I did them last night What has doing the dishes got to do with living the gospel? Good news is what the word 'gospel' means so how is doing the dishes good news? When Christ changes your heart doing the dishes no longer remains an activity to avoid. It becomes an act of love, service and faith. When we are willing to put aside our own pleasure so that we can serve our family (by doing the dishes) then doing the dishes becomes kingdom work. So today we explore how something as innocent as the dishes can reveal who is your real master, who is it that you serve and why. Unpacking a small sliver of your day like doing the dishes will equip you to realise how to serve God and people in other areas of your life. Romans 6:15-23 Realise your slaveryExercisesShare when you did something as a slave to sin and as a slave to Christ v15-16. Share how you came to love Christ v17. Discuss specifically what it will mean for you to be a slave of righteousness v18. Discuss why being God’s slave is both challenging and a relief.
Prayer: Heavenly Father forgive me for so often presenting myself to the master of my own pleasure and comfort; my sin. Change my heart so that I desire to enjoy what is good rather than what is evil. Teach me to see opportunities where I can be an encouragement and support to my brothers and sisters in Christ. When I suffer or am being hurt give me the courage to overcome evil with good. Amen |
